1. Change in the Manning Morning Routine
Dear Manning Community,
Great schools use their time wisely, and we realize that we could be wiser in the morning. I am very excited to let you know about a change we are going to start NEXT WEEK, on Monday, May 20th. We are fortunate that this year the buses come early enough that we could take the children off the bus and gain fifteen minutes of instructional time during the day by having students have breakfast before pledges. Doing this will require substantial changes to our morning routine and we want to make sure you are aware of these changes. Here is how our new morning routine will work:
- If you are walker and you want breakfast, please have your child here at 9:00.
- If you are a walker and do not need breakfast, please have your child here by 9:15.
- Staff will take students off of buses and into the auditorium for breakfast starting at 9:00.
- Pledges will start at 9:18 in the auditorium.
We are doing this to maximize our instructional time. This new process will allow us to start instruction at 9:45 as opposed to 10:00. Also, sometimes we have students waiting on their buses for up 25 minutes! Too often, we are looking for the time for students to be doing an intervention that will lead them to greater success. This is that time. It is important to point out that this is a pilot. We will not be able to start this on the first day of school next year, because we cannot guarantee when the buses will come. However, we want to do this now so that we can understand and learn from the process so that if we can work with the transportation department to make this work next year, we will be able to do so.
I want to thank the School Culture Committee and all the staff for helping to make this important change happen. Great schools also have great faculties and staffs and we certainly have that!

This is your opportunity to help finalize our vision and make sure it is just what we want!
We are also going to begin to figure out how we will realize this vision! What are we going to do in the next three years to make this the very best school it can be!
3. Parent Council Date Change

6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Location: Manning Cafetorium
to our Manning Parent Council meeting.
Babysitting is provided.
Bring something to share for a potluck if you can.
If you can’t make the meeting, but would like to get involved, please be in touch with one of us.

Along with a People’s Choice Award, there will be a judging panel including celebrity guest judges, Julia Collin Davison, star of America’s Test Kitchen and Cook’s Country TV shows and Mayoral Candidate, Bill Walczak.

5. May’s Genre Challenge is Mysteries
The challenge is to have the students read at least three books each month of that particular genre. Once they have finished reading a book, each classroom teacher has a small form that the student needs to fill out with their name, title of the book, genre title, grade, and a brief summary of the book.
